“Natural and social risks in the coastal zones of Azov and Black seas”, 16-19 June, Abrau Durso

From 16 to 19 June, 2012 a seminar “Natural and Social Risks in the Coastal Zone of the Black and Azov Seas” took place in Durso, Krasnodar Region, organized by the Natural Risk Assessment Laboratory NRAL, Faculty of Geography, Lomonosov Moscow State University. The seminar was attended by members of the NRAL, MSU, Moscow, led by the leading scientist K. P. Koltermann and representatives of the Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region, and staff of United Nations University, Institute for Environment  and Human Security  in Bonn (Germany).

Symposium “Megagrants for Russian Environment” was held at headquarters of Russian Geographical Society 24-26 May in Saint-Petersburg.
5 Megagrants presented their results to start collaborating between laboratories and to provide improvement of professional skill for young scientists.

International Symposium “The Great East Japan Tsunami and Tsunami Warning Systems: Policy Perspectives”, 16-17 February 2012, Tokyo, Japan

 Peter Koltermann, at the invitation of UNESCO/IOC and the Government of Japan attended the Japan-UNESCO/UNU International Symposium “The Great East Japan Tsunami and Tsunami Warning Systems: Policy Perspectives”, 16-17 February 2012, United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan. The Conference discussed reports of the earthquake and tsunami, its impact and the response of people. It also reviewed the status of the tsunami end-to-end warning system, and lessons learnt from the disaster. He participated in a panel discussion “Strengthening International cooperation: Role of International Organizations”. From 18 – 19 February he joined an expert group to visit the Tohoku region, mostly affected by the                                                                                                   tsunami of March 11, 2011.

3 MEGAGRANTS RESULTS WERE PRESENTED ON THE MEETING IN RSHU, 8TH FEBRUARY, SAINT-PETERSBURG

8th Febrauary 2012 the results of 3 megagrants were presented on science seminar in Russian State
Hydrometeorological University (Saint-Petersburg). Meeting program included talks of
Bertrand Chapron from Space Laboratory, IFREMER about his lab “Satellite oceanography” in RSHU Saint-Petersburg, Natural Risk Asessment Laboratory staff (Chief Klaus Peter Koltermann, Lomonosov MSU Moscow) and Laboratory of Interaction between Atmosphere, Hydrosphere and Earth Surface staff (Chief Sergey Zilitinkevich, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod).
